Victory For Miss Monopoly

Miss Monopoly showing that she was ready to go on the morning of Saturday’s race

It was just over 12 months ago when the directors of Gold Edge had a tough decision to make. We had this lovely Smart Missile filly who had shown a bit at trackwork but refused to go into the barriers.

Several people tried, without success, to cure the filly of her issues. More than once we heard the term “You will never get this horse into a barrier!” Not sure what to do, we sent her back to our regular spelling farm, run by Kelly Barber in the Hunter, while we made a decision as to whether to try and sell her as a broodmare prospect. Kelly asked if she could have one last attempt to turn this filly’s career around. Within a couple of months, Kelly had performed a miracle and actually got her to a trial at Scone in July last year. It wasn’t all smooth sailing as she had plenty more work to do before eventually taking Miss Monopoly to the races.

Last Saturday at Armidale, all that hard work paid off, with Miss Monopoly breaking her maiden at her sixth attempt bringing much joy, and relief, to her wonderful and patient owners.

We could not be more grateful to Kelly for all the work that she has put into getting this girl to the track. Now, with her barrier issues seemingly behind her, we look forward to much more success with Miss Monopoly
