Good Weekend For Gold Edge

The weekend proved to be a very good one for several of our owners. On Friday night, Nicci’s Fling got the ball rolling with a good and determined win at Canterbury Park, in the Regal Stage Handicap over 1250 metres. Nicci was, once more, a little tardy out of the gates but was able to get into a reasonable position after being hunted up by Dylan Gibbons. It was a great ride by Gibbons who got the mare rolling just prior to the bend and once straightening up, was able to mow the opposition down. Nicci should gain quite a bit of confidence out of the win and can hopefully string a few more together in what will most likely be her last preparation before heading to the breeding barn.

On Saturday, the Gold Edge team headed out to the Central West to watch our 4yo mare Poppy’s Girl have her first run for new trainer Gayna Williams. Poppy didn’t fail to impress her new connections, going down by the narrowest of margins (.01 lengths) in a maiden over 1280 metres. It was heart stopping stuff and the judge took what seemed like an eternity to decide on the result. Finally, Poppy came out 2nd but has shown us all the sort of ability she has. We look forward to seeing her over a bit more ground at her next start.

Monday saw us venture out to Dubbo with the flashy chestnut Inessa. Going into the race, all connections were very confident. Unfortunately, Nessy had absolutely no luck in the run when the horse inside of her clipped heels with the horse in front and almost fell. Whilst stumbling, this horse shifted out making contact with Inessa and forced her right off the track. Jockey, Grant Buckley managed to balance the girl up again and found the line solidly to finish a respectable 5th but the damage had been done. Inessa has hasn’t had much luck in 4 of her 5 runs to date but, given an even rub of the green, should win plenty of races in the future.
